Reboot

What happens when a player starts, then leaves early through injury.

A Reboot applies when a player starts and plays, but leaves early due to injury. Normal substitutions, rest or coaching decisions do not qualify.

When a player exits early through injury, any pick already decided at that moment stands. Any pick still undecided is removed and the lineup shrinks one tier, the same as a DNP.

How it works

Say the line is Messi 2.5 shots:

  • MORE, already passed: he has 3 shots, then gets injured and exits. The pick wins; he had already cleared the line.
  • MORE, undecided: he has 1 shot, then gets injured and exits. The pick is removed and the lineup shrinks; there is no way to know whether he would have got there.
  • LESS, already failed: he has 3 shots, then gets injured and exits. The pick loses; he had already gone over.
  • LESS, undecided: he has 1 shot, then gets injured and exits. The pick is removed and the lineup shrinks; he was under, but left early, so nothing is settled.

When the early-exit window applies, by sport

  • Soccer: the player must start, and the injury exit must come in the first half.
  • Football: an injury exit in the first half, for all players.
  • Baseball: batters who exit after two or fewer plate appearances, and pitchers who exit before completing their outing.
  • Basketball: an injury exit in the first half.

Tennis retirements

  • MORE already passed: the pick wins.
  • LESS and the player has already passed the line: the pick loses.
  • Otherwise the pick is removed, the same as a DNP.
